Palermo – Venezia
Palermo hosts Venezia in second match from the 1/2-finals of the promotion playoffs in the Serie B. Let’s have a look.
Palermo have a slight advantage after the first leg, because of the 1-1 draw at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo. Antonino La Gumina opened the score for Palermo in the first leg, but Davide Marsura leveled the score and kept Venezia’s chances bigger. But clearly this draw was not what Venezia hoped for in the first leg.
Now Palermo have one away goal in their bag before the rematch. This would make Venezia a little nervous, because they know that they have to attack and score at least one goal in the game. But in same time, they must remain concentrated in defense, because Palermo would like to score, too.
Venezia reached the promotion 1/2-finals after eliminating Perugia in the 1/4-final. Filippo Inzaghi’s boys enjoyed a stellar 3-0 win at home, thanks to goals from Leo Stulac, Marco Modolo and Marco Pinato.
During the regular season Venezia finished 5th with 67 points won. Inzaghi’s team celebrated 17 wins, made 16 draws and suffered 9 defeats during the campaign. They hoped to finish first or second and acquire a direct promotion to the Serie A, but they were unable to do it.
Palermo on the other hand finished 4th in the Serie B with 71 points and a record of 18 wins, 17 draws and 7 losses. Just like Venezia, their goal was to be in the Top 2, but now the Sicilians wll have to do some extra work in order to return to the Serie A.
This is our examination of the Serie B promotion playoff 1/2-final between Palermo and Venezia. Palermo have an advantage after the first leg, but nothing is clear just yet.
