Germany faces Spain
Germany faces Spain at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart in a match from Group 4 of the UEFA Nations League. This is one of the biggest derbies of the competitions this year, so let’s take a look at it in the next few paragraphs.
That’s the second edition of the Nations League and Germany will try to win for a first time. The manager Joachim Low named a squad of 22 players for the next two matches against Spain and Switzerland. What’s interesting about the team Low picked? Let’s take a look.
The German coach decided to give a rest to the men who played the late rounds of the Champions League 2019/20 season. Players like Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka will have a rest and they won’t feature in the next two games. The same could be said about RB Leipzig’s Marcel Halstenberg and Lukas Klostermann.
At the same time Low picked for a first time Borussia M’gladbach’s Florian Neuhaus who will make his official debut for the national team. The head coach described him as “a very intelligent player”.
Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal had to leave Spain’s squad because of being diagnosed with coronavirus. The manager Luis Enrique reacted quickly to the news and replaced him with Villarreal’s forward Gerard Moreno. In the next two games La Roja will face Germany and Ukraine.
Despite playing the Champions League final against PSG, Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara will be in Luis Enrique’s squad. Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Saul were not called by the manager, but players like Fabian Ruiz, Rodrigo and Marco Asensio will have the opportunity to show their quality.
It’s always a big thing in football when we have a game between teams like Germany and Spain. These two teams are among the favourites to win the Nations League, so we can’t wait to see them on the pitch.
