Dijon – PSG

Dijon faces the champion PSG in one of the 1/4-finals game from the Coupe de France on Wednesday. This match is going to be played at the Stade Gaston-Gerard in Dijon. Can the hosts cause an upset here? Let’s discuss.

In the phase of the 1/8-finals Dijon needed extra time in order to eliminate Limonest away from home. The regular time in Decines-Charpieu ended with a 1-1 draw. Aziz Bouzit scored first for the hosts, but Jhonder Cadiz equalised for Dijon. The visitors reached the next phase with a goal from Stephy Mavididi in the last seconds before the end of the extra time. It was a huge luck for Dijon to score goal in such a moment.

In the Ligue 1 Dijon’s performance is far from impressive as the club is 17th in the standings with 25 points.

PSG reached the 1/4-finals of the Coupe de France after an easy 2-0 win over Pau away from home. The manager Thomas Tuchel rested some of his stars in that game, but this didn’t stop PSG from winning it. Leandro Paredes opened the score for the Parisians, while Pablo Sarabia doubled the team’s lead in the second half.

At this moment, before their game in the Ligue 1 against Olympique Lyonnais, PSG are in a run of seven consecutive wins in all competitions. Clearly Coupe de France is not a priority for the champions, compared to Ligue 1 or the Champions League, but most probably the team would like to win the trophy after losing the final against Rennes at the end of the last season.

We can make the conclusion that for Dijon it’s going to be difficult to oppose to PSG. The French champion is enjoying a very good form right now and they look ready to progress in the competition.
