Chelsea – Manchester City

It’s going to be an exciting derby at the Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Manchester City on Thursday night. These two English giants will face each other in a fixture from the 31th round of the Premier League. Let’s take a look.

Chelsea are playing to secure their place in the Top 4 and book another participance in the Champions League next season. Right now the Blues are 4th in the league with 51 points, having five points advantage in front of the 5th Manchester United. It’s going to be a successful debut season for the manager Frank Lampard if he reaches the Top 4.

Chelsea restarted their season with a win. The Blues paid a visit to Aston Villa at the Villa Park and won the game with 2-1. At halftime the hosts were actually ahead, but after the break Chelsea did the job. Pulisic equalised for Lampard’s team, while just two minutes later Olivier Giroud scored for the Blues’ 15th win for the season.

We believe that Frank Lampard approached the game against Aston Villa with Manchester City in mind. He put Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley on the bench against Villa, so most likely they will play against City.

Manchester City are flying since the league was restarted. They won both of their games against Arsenal and Burnley, while scoring eight times on both occassions. It seems that Man City are in a killer form at the moment, so Chelsea must be careful with them.

Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy got rested against Burnley with just De Bruyne playing a part. Most likely this was a strategy by Guardiola to prepare the team for this game.

In conclusion we can say that both Chelsea and Manchester City look in good shape before this derby in the capital. Who will edge the opponent here?
