Borussia Dortmund – Freiburg

Borussia Dortmund hosts Freiburg at the Signal Iduna Park in a match from the third round of the Bundesliga. Die Borussen will try to react after suffering a defeat against Augsburg in the previous round.

Borussia Dortmund suffered kind of unexpected loss when they paid a visit to Augsburg in the previous round of the Bundesliga. Lucien Favre’s team tried its best, but at the end they suffered a 0-2 defeat. Favre’s substitutions after the halftime didn’t help as well.

Lucien Favre is trusting the youth talent since the start of the season. The teenagers Juge Bellingham and Giovanni Reyna are starters in the midfield, while Sanco and Erling Haland are still very young, too. Clearly Dortmund are trying to develop their young talents and this is wonderful. At the same time players like Hummels, Can, Witsel and Meunier are bringing the experience in the starting line-up.

Freiburg are unbeaten since the beginning of the 2020/21 season in the Bundesliga – one win and one draw in the first two matches. They won against Stuttgart in the first round while in the second one they shared the points with Wolfsburg.

The match between Freiburg and Wolfsburg at the Schwarzwald-Stadion ended with a 1-1 draw. Nils Petersen opened the score for the hosts, but Josip Brekalo scored an equaliser for the Wolves just minutes before the halftime.

It’d be interesting to see if Freiburg’s manager Christian Streich is going to make some changes in his line-up for this visit to Dortmund. Players like Woo-Yeong, Chang-Hoon, Demirovic and Gulde entered the pitch as substitutions agianst Wolfsburg last weekend. Maybe some of them will be in the starting eleven now?
